Electricity in Southeast Asia - statistics & facts
Southeast Asia’s (SEA) rapidly growing populations, ongoing industrialization, urbanization, electrification, and digitalization have driven surging electricity demand across the region – a trend forecast to continue in the coming decades. To meet this demand, electricity generation in SEA has expanded rapidly. Vietnam led the region with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of electricity generation of approximately eight percent between 2014 and 2024, while the Philippines and Indonesia recorded rates of around five percent. However, the region is facing numerous challenges in balancing supply to ensure energy security while striving for a sustainable energy transition.
