Digital health in mental healthcare - statistics and facts
Demand for mental health services has soared globally, and many areas have trouble finding enough therapists to fill employment gaps. Digital health services may be well-placed to subside the rising demand and falling supply of professionals. Global funding into digital health ventures focused on mental healthcare attracted funding of 2.7 billion U.S. dollars. In the United States in particular, digital health start-ups focused on mental health received funding of 1.4 billion U.S. dollars, the most of any clinical indication. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many health systems to improve or even introduce telehealth services. Among the WHO European Region, around 22 percent of countries reported they introduced telepsychiatry services, while around half of countries improved their remote psychiatry services.
