Battery storage industry in Europe - statistics & facts
Batteries are emerging as one of the main energy storage technologies in Europe and the world, as they are fundamental for boosting grid flexibility and efficiency. They are also particularly important for the integration of the renewable energy deployed in the region into the electricity grid, while Europe moves away from fossil fuels. Some European countries have thus set energy storage and battery capacity targets, although the production of battery system components in the region was still largely below demand in 2023. This was due to elevated battery manufacturing costs in Europe because of its import reliance for battery materials.
