The new EU Regulatory Framework for Batteries aims to set a more sustainable supply chain for batteries, including material recovery rates for battery minerals. The proposed legislation requires ** percent of cobalt, copper, lead, and nickel, as well as ** percent of lithium to be recovered from batteries by 2027. These figures rise to ** percent and ** percent, respectively, by 2031. The new EU Regulatory Framework for Batteries was first proposed in 2020 and replaces the EU Batteries Directive of 2006.
