E-scooters in Europe - statistics & facts
At the end of August 2023, e-scooters that had become part of the urban landscape of Paris began disappearing off the streets. In April of the same year, the city had held a referendum to decide whether to ban shared e-scooters. While only around eight percent of the population voted, those who did overwhelmingly agreed that e-scooters should indeed be banned. While there had been about 14,000 shared e-scooters in Paris a year before the ban, none were left on the streets at the beginning of September 2023, when the ban came into force.
