Citation formats

According to a survey conducted across 30 countries in 2025, around **** percent of respondents stated that their favorite Korean music artist was popular K-pop group BTS. One of the members, Jungkook, also made the ranking as a solo artist, with a popularity of *** percent.

The age of K-pop

Among the leading music genres in South Korea, K-pop also attained a strong global following in recent years. This was exemplified by BLACKPINK becoming the first Asian act to headline the popular Coachella music festival in the United States in 2023. The group boasts high album sales, making them one of the most successful artists in the genre. Likewise, boyband BTS also achieved global fame by means of album sales in the tens of millions, sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium, and high-profile appearances at the White House or the United Nations.

K-pop generations

K-pop bands are often grouped by generations, determined by the time of their debuts. With every new generation, the global reach of the genre has increased. Strong online presences with content on numerous platforms made artists accessible for fans all around the world. Newer acts can also build on the success stories of previous artists, helping the fourth generation of K-pop groups - such as IVE and aespa - to feature prominently in recent album and single sales.
