The survey was taken from the study "Autoritäre Dynamiken in unsicheren Zeiten". It is the result of a representative survey about the political climate in Germany among 2,522 persons aged 16 to 91. This survey was conducted by a team of the University of Leipzig including Elmar Brähler und Oliver Decker in cooperation with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and the Otto-Brenner-Stiftung.

Numbers have fluctuated in the last decade, though since 2014, they have been generally on the rise.

Bigger issues

Concerns about xenophobia among the German population are closely linked to subsequent concerns about the spread of right-wing populism and nationalism, or acts of politically motivated crime. These issues worry not only Germany, both in terms of the population and the government, but other European countries as well.
