The generic drugs market value in Italy increased steadily from the third quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of 2020. According to the data, the most remarkable increment was registered in the second quarter of 2018, when the market value of generic drugs increased by **** percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Over the course of 2020, however, the market volume of generics experienced a contraction. The sharpest decline was recorded during the second quarter of 2020, when the revenue coming from generics decreased by *** percent compared to the second quarter of 2019. This period corresponded with the national lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19. From the second quarter of 2022 onward the generic drugs market value increased again.
