In 2024, the most common active ingredient in terms of expenditure among class C generic drugs in Italy was tadalafil. Tadalafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, accounted for ** percent of all expenditures on this class of drugs. Sildenafil citrate and lorazepam followed, with ** percent of sales value of drugs which cost must be covered entirely by private citizens.
