The number of containers processed at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges increased steadily from 2013 to 2020, and in 2020 the Port of Antwerp processed over *** million containers. The lowest number of containers processed at the port between 2009 and 2020 was seen in 2009, when less than ** containers were processed. In 2021, the ports of Antwerp and Bruges decided to merge. The 2021 and 2022 increase in the number of containers can thus be explained by the merger since the figures prior to 2021 only include data for the Port of Antwerp.
