This report usually combines the number of patents granted to subsidiary companies with the number of patents granted to their parent company, however this is the only case in the annual reports published from 2013 onwards. As a result, some additional patents may have been registered to subsidiary companies which are not included in the report. The source notes that it "makes reasonable efforts to avoid errors, but cannot guarantee accuracy" of the published figures.
As of 2017, Google Inc. has been designated as a subsidiary under the parent company of Alphabet Inc.
