Top tier football teams have a lot of fans who follow them on various social media platforms. The most prominent platform for fans is by far Facebook. In January 2019, Real Madrid was the football club with the most followers on every platform with a total of 109.44 million Facebook followers. The only other club that comes close to Real Madrid is Barcelona FC, which had 102.66 million Facebook followers at the time.

Instagram and Twitter

The two next most popular social media platforms, used to follow top tier football clubs, are Instagram and Twitter. On Instagram Real Madrid had the most followers at 67.16 million, followed by Barcelona FC at 63.77 million. However, on Twitter Barcelona FC has the bigger following with 52.39 million compared to Real Madrid’s 50.77 million. Other clubs which come closest in terms of social media popularity include Manchester United, FC Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC but every other has significantly less followers.

Club values

Real Madrid also had the highest enterprise value of all clubs in Europe at approximately 3.2 billion euros, closely followed by Manchester United. Bayern Munic was the most successful club in Germany, when considering enterprise value or fandom.
