This statistic shows the percentage change on the previous year of the number of bankruptcies of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Belgium from 2008 to 2020. As of 2020, insolvencies in Belgium decreased by approximately ** when compared to the previous year. Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels Capital Region offer different kinds of investment aids to assist Belgian or foreign businesses in the region. Many of these measures are aimed at starter businesses or self-employed. One example of this is the so-called Participation Fund (in Dutch: participatiefonds/in French: fonds de participation), a federal public institution offering different loans for both small and medium-sized companies and self-employed.
