* Blast furnace gas is a by-product of blast furnaces where iron ore is reduced with coke into metallic (pig) iron. The gas has a very low heating value of around 0.9kWh/Nm3.
British blast furnace gas production presented a trend of decline, despite some oscillation, peaking at some 15.6 terawatt hours in 2013. Between 2010 and 2019, figures decreased by 2.04 terawatt hours. In 2019, the UK produced approximately 9.4 terawatt hours worth of blast furnace gas.
