Among the fast-food chains with the largest number of units in Sweden, OKQ8 ranked first. As of 2016, the service station chain operated *** units within the country. It was followed by the domestic convenience store chain Pressbyrån with *** units, ahead of the service and convenience store chain Cirkle K with *** units. By comparison, in terms of net sales of quick service restaurants, Cirkle K reached the 5th place, while Pressbyrån was in eighth position. OKQ8 ranked even lower in 11th place.

McDonald’s worldwide

With **** billion Swedish kronor, the quick service restaurant chain McDonald’s made the highest net sales in Sweden in 2016. When looking at the worldwide perspective, the internationally known company reached also the highest revenue among all fast-food chains around the world. The total revenue of McDonald’s amounted to almost ** billion U.S. dollars in 2016.

Domestic restaurant industry

   The net revenue of the Swedish restaurant, catering and bar industry increased in recent years. In 2016, it peaked at a net revenue of roughly *** billion Swedish kronor. The domestic fast-food restaurant sector accounted for a share of ** percent of the total revenue of the Swedish restaurant industry, right behind lunch and evening restaurants and pubs, bars and other beverage serving places.
