In fiscal year 2022, around *** million Indians were covered under government-sponsored health insurance schemes across India, including the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). This was an increase in the number of people covered under health insurance schemes, compared to just around *** million people in fiscal year 2012. 
The National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) was formerly called Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It was later shifted to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and renamed Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (RSSY) in fiscal year 2017.
