In fiscal year 2018, the value of health insurance premiums from government-sponsored schemes including the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) amounted to almost ** billion Indian rupees. This was about ** billion rupees in 2015 indicating a growth in premiums.
The National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) was formerly called Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It was later shifted to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and renamed Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (RSSY) in fiscal year 2017.
