The automotive fleet size has been consistently increasing in the North American country in the past four decades. Back in 1980, there were fewer than *** million vehicles in circulation. 

Mexico: an automobile production hub

Besides standing out worldwide for its gastronomy or its attractive tourist destinations, Mexico is classified as one of the leading markets in the manufacture of motor vehicles. In 2023, the North American country produced almost **** million cars and commercial vehicles. That year, General Motors and Nissan were jointly responsible for most of the light vehicles produced in Mexican territory.

The challenging transition to electric mobility

Despite being a leader in the automotive market, the adoption of electric vehicles in Mexico is still limited. While in the United States nearly *** ³¾¾±±ô±ô¾±´Ç²ÔÌýelectric vehicles were sold in 2023, in Mexico, lower volumes of battery-electric vehicles ²¹²Ô»åÌýhybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles were sold.
