The OECD accounts for 38.1 percent of worldwide final energy consumption. Between 1973 and 2019, the OECD share dropped significantly as other regions and countries such as China experienced prominent economic growth and their energy demand increased accordingly. In 2019, China alone accounted for 21 percent of final energy consumption worldwide.
