Registrations of electric cars and motor vehicles
The volume of new electric passenger car registrations fluctuated between 2014 and 2018 but has been growing significantly since, rising to more than ** new passengers cars in 2023. This compares to almost ** new electric passenger cars in the previous year and * electric vehicles in 2019.Â
Tesla Model 3 leading registrations
As of July 2024, the most common fully electric passenger car model on Dutch roads was the Tesla Model 3, of which there were over * registered. This was a sharp advantage compared to the second most popular battery-electric car, the Tesla Model Y, of which there are close to * units. With about * cars registered, the Kia Niro has fallen behind the Model Y in terms of popularity.
