The figures above are expressed in standard cubic metres (measured at 15°C and 1013 mbar). Since they are derived directly from energy content measurements using an average conversion factor and standardized to a Gross Calorific Value (GCV) of 40 MJ/m³, they may not exactly match gas volumes reported in national-specific terms.
Due to variations in stocks at storage facilities, there may be a difference between these world consumption figures and the world production statistics.
In 2025, China was the largest consumer of natural gas in the Asia-Pacific region, with around billion cubic meters of natural gas consumed. In the same year, Japan consumed the second-largest amount of natural gas in the region, with a consumption of around **** billion cubic meters.
