Natural gas industry in Singapore - statistics & facts
Natural gas is a key energy source for power generation in Singapore. The country's total power generation capacity stood at about 12.9 thousand megawatts as of the second quarter of 2023, with more than 94 percent of that power generated from natural gas. Over the past few decades, the country has significantly reduced its carbon emissions by increasing the share of natural gas in its electricity generation mix, which reached only 19 percent in 2000. Since the country has no indigenous gas reserves, it relies on imports through pipelines from Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) from around the world.
