Coal in this statistic refers to commercial solid fuels like bituminous coal and anthracite (hard coal), lignite and brown (sub-bituminous) coal, and other commercial solid fuels. This includes coal produced for Coal-to-Liquids and Coal-to-Gas transformations.
China was the largest producer of coal in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, producing around  exajoules of coal in 2025. That year, India produced about exajoules of coal, making the country the second-largest producer of coal in the region.
