In 2024, Ghana is estimated to have produced about ** metric tons of cocoa beans. This was about half of the production volume in 2021.

Top producers of cocoa beans

Although cocoa beans originate from South America, the majority of cocoa bean production is attributed to Africa. In 2024/2025, Africa’s cocoa bean production amounted to around *** million tons. On a country level, the top two producers of cocoa beans are Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, with Côte d'Ivoire producing more than twice the volume of cocoa beans of Ghana. The Netherlands and Côte d'Ivoire were the two biggest processors of cocoa beans in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Global cocoa price development

The commodity price index for cocoa soared in 2024, reaching an all-time high in early 2025. Since then, prices have halved but remain elevated. As of January 2026, the price of a metric ton of cocoa cost over U.S. dollars.
