With crude oil prices slumping in the wake of the coronavirus, 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, greenfield capital expenditure for conventional oil and gas fields worldwide is expected to fall to around 78 billion U.S. dollars in 2020. A month ago, before the severity of COVID-19 was fully understood and before Saudi Arabia decided to ramp up oil production, the value of projects reaching final investment decision was expected to amount to 209 billion U.S. dollars this year.
