The March 2020 oil crisis following economic shutdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic and an ongoing price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia has forced many United States oil and gas producers to stop the production of some oil rigs. As of March 27, there were 382 oil and gas rigs in use in the Permian basin, a decline of 23 rigs compared to the previous week.
