During a November 2018 survey, it was found that ** percent of internet users in the United States accessed YouTube to watch online video. Facebook was ranked second with a ** percent market reach. In the United States, ** percent of online users watch online video on a weekly basis.
Online video in the United States
Online video is one of the most popular digital activities in the United States. In ***, ** percent of respondents of an online survey stated that they watched more online video compared to last year. The growth in video consumption is connected to an increasing volume of available content (from free platforms such as YouTube to subscription video on demand services like Netflix), as well as a growing video audience on devices other than desktop PCs. In 2018, 62 percent of U.S. online audiences used a smartphone to watch online video, ahead of ** percent who used desktop computers. Most video services are available as mobile apps, and consoles and smart devices like the Google Chromecast enable online users to stream online video directly to their TVs. The most popular video app in the United States is YouTube, with a mobile audience reach of over *** million users. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video also rank among the most downloaded entertainment apps among U.S. iPhone audiences.
