Sugar consumption in the United States has remained fairly stable in the past few years, with the volume of centrifugal sugar consumed domestically slightly over ** million metric tons. Nevertheless, this was notably higher than in 2022/2003, when consumption totaled *** million metric tons.
Sugar is generally derived from two distinct crops, sugar cane and sugar beets. The United States grows both crops in large amounts. In 2024, about **** million tons of sugar cane were grown and harvested in the United States. The two U.S. states with the highest production volume of sugar cane in that year were Florida and Louisiana. In that same year, about **** million tons of sugar beets were produced.
