In 2024, The Home Depot was the top ranked home improvement chain in the United States with sales amounting to around  billion U.S. dollars. Lowe's followed with over **** billion U.S. dollars in sales. The ranking and competition between The Home Depot and Lowes was also reflected in the sales of home improvement retail companies worldwide in 2025. 

Brand loyalty

The competition between Lowe's and The Home Depot is unlikely to give way, at least in the United States, where both brands enjoy high consumer loyalty for their online DIY and garden shops.

Opportunities for expansion

Both DIY (do it yourself) home improvement and gardening are becoming more popular pastime activities in the United States, offering both Lowe's and The Home Depot plenty of opportunities for competition and expansion.
