In 2024, there were some 191,000 people employed in the United States mining industry, excluding oil and gas extraction workers. This was an increase of 3,000 employees compared to 2023.
Including oil and gas extraction and support activities for mining, the U.S. mining industry employed a total of 586,000 people in 2023.
