According to a report from 2026, a total of *** hospitals in the United States are at risk of closing or reducing services due to Medicaid funding cuts*, including *** urban and *** rural hospitals. The closure of these at-risk hospitals would affect an estimated *** million patients, not to mention hundreds of thousands of hospital staff. Safety-net hospitals serving largely low-income populations are most affected, with rural facilities particularly vulnerable due to already thin margins and limited alternative funding sources.
