In 2022, some 40 percent of the federal government's health spending was spent on Medicaid. The second largest portion was spent on Medicare, with around 27 percent. Another 25 percent was spent on other remaining health programs. over 90 percent of the over 1.3 trillion U.S. dollars were spent on government health programs.
