In September 2024, global stablecoin outflows slightly exceeded inflows, according to proxy estimates released in February 2026. Total inflows were estimated at 172.29 billion U.S. dollars, while outflows reached 174.57 billion U.S. dollars, indicating a modest net outflow during the month.

Note that any stablecoin figure comes with major caveats. It is difficult for sources to identify the country of origin as well as destination of a stablecoin transaction. This comes on top of identifying whether the transaction is a payment between individuals or, for example, a bot using stablecoin in a cryptocurrency trade. Nevertheless, stablecoins take up a considerable market share within the overall crypto market. Within the payments industry, they are seen as a tool to improve cross-border payments.
