* Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a monetary conversion rate that allows expressing the purchasing powers of different currencies in a common unit. This rate expresses the ratio between the amount of monetary units needed in different countries to obtain the same "basket" of goods and services.
This conversion rate can be different from the "exchange rate"; indeed, the exchange rate of one currency relative to another reflects their reciprocal values on international financial markets and not their intrinsic values for a consumer.
