The data come from the Foreign Investment Registry (RIE) and are those declared by investors in accordance with the provisions of Spanish legislation on foreign investments. It should be noted that the stock information is updated annually, incorporating information relating to the fiscal year two years prior to its publication. For this reason, the source only provides information up to the year 2017.

* The stock of foreign direct investment is the valuation of accumulated foreign direct investment at a given point in time. That is, the valuation of those investments that entered Spain, through which the foreign investor intended to obtain management control of a company (an investment of 10 percent or more of the shares confers voting rights in a company).

This statistic shows employment as a measure of stock, that is, the average number of employees of the recipient companies of foreign investment, associated with the value of the position or stock. It includes only non-ETVE investments.
ETVE-type operations consist of investments made by Foreign Securities Holding Entities (ETVE). These are instrumental companies whose existence is due to tax optimization strategies within the same business group. This type of investment has purely fiscal purposes, so it is often also referred to as non-productive investment.
