Child labor remains a reality worldwide, despite the efforts of various national and international organizations. According to the latest data collected, approximately 11.5 percent of Mexican children between 5 and 17 years old were engaged in some form of inappropriate work. During that same year, most girls were involved in economic activities in the service sector, while boys were engaged in agricultural activities.
