The End of Childhood Index scores are calculated on a scale from 1 to 1,000. The meaning of the scores is as follows:
- 940 or more: few children lose childhood
- 760 to 939: some children do not have access to childhood
- 600 to 759: many children do not have access to childhood
- 380 to 599: most children do not have access to childhood
- 379 or less: almost all children lack childhood.

Countries with the most unprotected childhoods in 2021
Childhood should be one of the most beautiful and stable phases of all human beings. However, this premise is not fulfilled everywhere. On the contrary, there are many countries in the world where being a child is very difficult, and in many others, that experience is barely enjoyed. According to the End of Childhood Index, prepared by Save the Children, the African continent is where this situation is most evident. Specifically, Niger and the Central African Republic are the two countries among *** participants in the study where childhood is most at risk, with values below ***. To create this ranking, eight main indicators are analyzed: mortality rate among children under five years old, degree of malnutrition and severe growth retardation, level of schooling, age of entry into work, child marriages, forced displacement due to conflict and violence, adolescent birth rate, and child homicide rate.
