On March 14, 2020, a state of emergency was declared in Spain due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the extent it was beginning to have in the country at that time. As a result, road travel was limited only to justified cases. Despite this, fatalities continued to be recorded on national interurban roads. Specifically, *** people lost their lives on Catalan interurban roads between March 15 and May 6 of the mentioned year. In this way, Catalonia became the Spanish region with the highest road accident rate during the state of emergency, followed by Andalusia and the Valencian Community.
