For this year, a link was made between the data from the General Subdirectorate of Knowledge and Tourism Studies, the entity responsible for the Tourist Expenditure Survey (EGATUR) until September 30, 2015, and the National Institute of Statistics of Spain, responsible for it since October 1 of the same year.

In 2020, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the total spending of international tourists visiting Spain amounted to less than ** billion euros, more than ** billion below the figure recorded in 2019. Notably, the arrival of foreign visitors to Spain fell by ** percent. In 2021, international spending recovered significantly, and in the following two years, it rose again. Specifically, spending in 2023 exceeded the pre-pandemic level, surpassing billion.
