*The DPE labels describe the conventional primary energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for five uses (heating, domestic hot water, cooling, lighting, and auxiliaries) of a dwelling according to the 3CL method in effect as of January 1, 2022. For new dwellings built in 2020 and 2021, the DPE are assessed using the RT 2012 or RE 2020 methods.

Out of the ** million primary residences as of January 1, 2022, *** million homes (* percent of the stock) are low energy consumers (labels A and B of the energy performance diagnosis, DPE). Conversely, *** million homes (or ** percent of the primary residence stock) are "energy sieves" (labels F and G of the DPE). Energy sieves are more common among single-family houses than in housing located in collective buildings (** percent versus ** percent). Label D is the most common (** percent of the stock); labels C and E represent ** percent and ** percent respectively of the primary residence stock.
