In 2024, authorities around the world blocked access to different communication platforms. X, formerly known as Twitter, was shut down 24 times in 14 countries. Facebook was the second most frequently targeted platform. Governments used these blocks to restrict the flow of information on widely used services and to limit communication among specific groups.
