In the financial year 2024, banks reported over ** million SHG-linked savings in India. The number of loans outstanding also increased by over ** percent since the previous year. The SHG-BLP was developed by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide financial services to the unreached rural poor. Under this program, banks were allowed to open savings accounts for self-help groups (SHGs).
