As of 2024, Mexico and Canada are considerably more reliant on trade than the United States. While trade in goods and services made up over percent of Mexico's GDP in 2024, only percent of the U.S. GDP is made up by trade. Canada's share of trade to GDP ratio stood at percent that year.
The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is a trade deal that replaced NAFTA in 2020. Designed to facilitate free trade in North America, the introduction of new reciprocal tariffs by the U.S. on Mexico and Canada in 2025, has threatened the agreement.
