A 2023 survey found that indie video game buyers had slightly different priorities when playing indie games as compared to their overall video gaming preferences. Overall, ** percent of responding indie purchasers named innovation and uniqueness as one of their top three priorities when playing indie games, while only ** percent of respondents stated this as a reason to play games in general. Story and narrative ranked first for both indie and general gaming reasons.
