According to a survey conducted in mid-November 2024, 77 percent of people in Australia supported the proposed ban on social media for children under 16, and 23 percent opposed it. Overall, three-quarters of Australians supported a duty of care from social media companies. Additionally, the majority of respondents supported stronger penalties for social media companies that do not comply with Australian laws. At the end of November 2024, Australia’s parliament passed the law banning social media for children under 16.
