South African general elections take place once every five years,

Fieldwork for this poll was done following the formation of the uMkhonto we Sizwe party by the ex-president Jacob Zuma on 16 December 2023.

The source stated the following: interviews were conducted in all areas of the county, and extended to rural areas. This methodology aims to provide a broad and representative range of political views in the country. Registered voters were filtered from the total sample and weighted separately by using the voter registration figures from the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission). All results were collected, combined and analyzed in an aggregate format to protect the identity and confidentiality of respondents. The respondents were given an election ballot like the one they would use on election day, and were asked to vote for their choice of political party as if it were the day of the election. The sample error for this sample survey was determined to be a maximum of plus or minus 1.9% at a 95% confidence level.

Citation formats

As of April 2024, a sample survey determined that around ** percent of respondents stated they would vote for the African National Congress (ANC) party in the general election taking place on May, **. The Democratic Alliance (DA) followed, with a share of almost ** percent. Interestingly, the new addition of the uMkhonto we Sizwe party (MK) has had an effect on the overall distribution of political support when compared to a previous survey.

It is important to note that these results do not present a prediction for the election results, as various factors could influence the voters' decision until the election day.
