A survey held in the U.S. in 2026 found that adults registered as Independents remained the least confident in their ability to distinguish real news from false information, with 61 percent saying they were very or somewhat confident in this, compared to 77 percent of Democrats and 73 percent of Republicans. Overall, around 70 percent of U.S. adults expressed confidence in telling real news from misinformation.
