Over the period from 1995 to 2023, total annual tax revenues consistently increased from around *** trillion euros in 1995, to almost trillion euros in 2023. Only in two years over this ** year period did tax revenues decline compared to the previous year, in 2009 due to the great recession and in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.Â
