Question was binary *Shares of Medicare decedents (beneficiaries who died) is calculated as: (number of beneficiaries in the group who both died and received hospice) divided by (total number of beneficiaries in the group who died) This calculation compares how each group accesses hospice but does not compare size of the groups or health disparities or inequities factors which can impact those who access Medicare.

Share of female Medicare decedents who used hospice in the U.S. 2019-2022
In 2022, just over half of Medicare beneficiaries who identified as female and died in 2022 were hospice patients. Meanwhile, male decedents were slightly less likely to use hospice services. Hospices provide end of life medical care, pain management, as well as emotional and spiritual support.
