In October 2024, around * fire spots (or pixels) were detected by the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite during nighttime around the globe, marking it as the most fire-active October since the launch of the European Space Agency observation satellite in 2016. August 2024 and July 2021 have been the months with the most fire activity, with over * nighttime fire pixels observed each month. The Summer of 2021 was hit hard by major wildfires in Turkey, Greece, Italy, the U.S., Russia, and Algeria.
